How to install Illinois Wesleyan anti-virus software

Illinois Wesleyan University has a site license for McAfee AntiVirus software. If you are running a Windows PC and needs anti-virus software you can either call the IT Help Desk at 556-3900, or download and install the McAfee anti-virus software following these instructions:

Instructions for computers running Windows 2000 or Windows XP

1.       Click on the "Start" button.

2.       Choose "Run" and type in \\mcafee\installers

3.       Click "OK", a window will appear. Open the "Mcafee 7.1" program.

4.       The installer will start shortly, click the Install button to begin.

5.       The following License Agreement screen will be displayed.

6.       Follow the prompts to continue the installation.

7.       When the installer reaches the Finish page, click Update Now and Run On-Demand Scan before clicking Finish to update the virus definitions and scan the computer for viruses.

Important: Virus software only functions properly when it has up-to-date virus definitions. (By default, McAfee is set to automatically update your virus definitions everyday at 12:00 p.m. )
Tip: your computer must be turned on and connected to the network in order for the update to complete.

It is your responsibility to occasionally check the status of your virus definitions. To do so, click: "Start", "Programs", "Network Associates", "VirusScan Console".
