Staff of the office of Information Technology are available to help faculty use technology for their teaching and research. If you'd like assistance from an instructional technologist, please call the IT Help Desk at 309-556-3900 to schedule an appointment.

Here are just some of the instructional technology resources available

Image Processing

  • color scanners, slide scanners, digital cameras
  • images from video, images from the web
  • manipulate with photo editing software (Photoshop)
  • OCR (optical character recognition)
  • photocopying directly to PDF via campus copiers

Audio and Video Processing

  • audio capture and manipulation with Audacity
  • audio file conversion, recording audio files on CD
  • video editing and projection, video file conversion
  • digital video cameras / firewire and iMovie/iDVD, Premiere Elements
  • working with QuickTime,  RealMedia,  Windows Media, Podcast and YouTube

Classroom Presentations

  • color enlargements (PPMS), color transparencies
  • PowerPoint presentations, Web Pages
  • document cameras (opaque projection, 3D objects, etc.)

File Conversion and Transfer

  • creating PDFs with Adobe Acrobat or via campus copiers
  • flash drives, CD-ROM recorders
  • file sharing via Course or Group homepages
  • FTP and SCP (moving files to and from the Internet / Intranet servers)

Intranet / Internet

  • creating homepages with Course Tools (MyIWU)
  • web page assistance, attaching files to e-mail or web pages
  • listservs, discussion groups, message boards, blogs and wikis
  • Electronic Reserves (Ames Library)
