Internship Info for Employers

When are interns available?

  • IWU interns are available on a part-time basis during the Fall (late August-December) and Spring (January-April) semesters. Many interns will work full-time during May Term and the summer months.
Will interns receive credit?
  • Some students will receive academic credit toward their degree. In this case, a faculty member will work with the sponsoring organization to outline internship requirements, and to complete a Learning Contract.
What do I have to do?

Employer Responsibilities:

  • Review resumes and applications of potential candidates forwarded to you electronically, or through U.S. mail. Select candidates to interview and schedule an interview time.
  • Conduct interviews and make selections in a timely fashion.
  • Complete a learning contract outlining duties for the intern.
  • Provide a meaningful work experience for which students can apply their knowledge and further develop skills.
  • Provide adequate supervision and guidance during the internship.
  • Complete an evaluation of the intern and return it to the Internship Coordinator.

Generally students are required to spend 120-140 hours on internship assignments if they are receiving academic credit. During Fall and Spring semesters, the requirements will be accomplished by spending 12-15 hours per week on site. During May Term, students will work full time for three weeks in order to meet time requirements.
