Grants for Lunch
The Grants-for-Lunch program is a series of lunchtime workshops on various aspects of grantseeking offered by the CFR Office and the Mellon Center on a monthly basis during the academic year.
Programs may cover any of a number of topics, offering general proposal-writing advice, discussing particular funding agencies, or offering information on grant programs suitable to specific disciplines.
If you have suggestions for future Grants-for-Lunch workshops, please forward them to Dave Wolfe or Jo Porter.
Schedule
Fall 2008
September 19, 2008 — Introduction to the Grants Office
12:00-1:00, Memorial Center, Cartwright Room
September's Grants-for-Lunch presentation will introduce you to the IWU Corporate and Foundation Relations Office (sometimes called "the Grants Office"), demonstrate some of the grant search tools available to you, and discuss the variety of services that our office offers to help you find and apply for external funding for your scholarship and artistic endeavors, junior and sabbatical leaves, and summer scholarship and travel.
October 17, 2008 — Deadlines and the Preparation of a Good Proposal
12:00-1:00, Memorial Center, Cartwright Room
A good proposal is readable, well-organized, grammatically correct, and understandable. Two of the best ways to learn how to put together a successful grant proposal are to talk with someone who has reviewed proposals for the funding agency and then to read successful (and not-so-successful) proposals yourself. At this presentation we will discuss these and other pointers that will help with your proposal writing.
November 14, 2008 — Submission of Proposals through NSF Fastlane and Grants.gov
12:00-1:00, Memorial Center, Cartwright Room
This presentation will discuss the tools for navigating through NSF's Fastlane as well as the Grants.gov website. We will concentrate on what is involved with the submission of a grant proposal and how the proposal is shaped by the interpretation of program guidelines.
