Students majoring in English who plan to apply for Illinois State Certification in secondary teaching should consult an advisor in the Education Department before the end of the fall semester of their freshman year. English majors minoring in education are required to take additional writing courses, and complete English 290 Grammar and Composition for Middle and High School English and English 235x Internship in Teaching Writing.
