The Romantics

In this course, we will study the aesthetics of Spanish Romanticism from a selection of narrative, poetry and drama from authors such as Mariano José de Larra, José Zorilla, Rosalía de Castro and Gustavo Adolfo Bécquer.  We will address themes characteristic of this period when Modern subjectivity was configured: the visionary poet, imagination vs. reason, liberalism vs. conservatism, and favorite Romantic (land)scapes, among others.
