Welcome to Japanese Studies
at Illinois Wesleyan University
The Japanese Studies Program at Illinois Wesleyan University has a strong connection with the Japanese community. Every year, the TECHNOS Program allows two first-year or sophomore students who show a great interest in Japanese studies to study and travel for two-weeks in Japan. The University and the Japanese Studies program benefit from the generous support and cooperation of the locally based Mitsubishi Motors Manufacturing of America.
One of the special characteristics of the Japanese Studies Program is that it is designed to teach Japanese through new technologies, with a simultaneous emphasis on the Japanese culture. Japanese characters are taught through computer programs and a computer lab class is designed for all students to obtain Japanese word processing skills. The Japanese Studies Program is designed for all students to acquire practical usage of Japanese language. The courses of Japanese Studies introduce communication of the Japanese people as well as customs and manners in Japan.
Students are encouraged to spend one or two semesters in Japan in the Study Abroad Program. This program enables students to acquire further knowledge of Japanese language and culture as well as communication skills in Japanese.
