The Ames Library holds over 2000 primary source documents and collections. Primary sources, such as newspapers, memoirs, speeches, and correspondence are found in such formats as microfilm, printed documentary editions, CDROM, online digital collections and Guides to Web Resources. Similar to our other holdings, the location of primary source documents in our collection is determined by their subject or topic and you can use the Online Catalog to search for these sources by adding the following terms to your search, including: Sources, Personal Narratives, Correspondence, Diaries, Memoirs, Oral History, Manuscripts, Speeches and Addresses, or Archives.

American Women's History: A Research Guide This guide provides citations to print and Internet reference sources, as well as to selected large primary source collections.
Asia Resources on the World Wide Web  This site is the main clearing house for Asia-related internet resources, maintained by the Association for Asian Studies.
Center for History & New Media  Center for History and New Media (CHNM), George Mason University, has brought together digital media with the latest historical scholarship. Many CHNM projects are undertaken in collaboration with the American Social History Project (ASHP)/Center for Media and Learning at The Graduate Center of The City University of New York (CUNY). Immigration History Research Center

IHRC, an interdisciplinary research center in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota. Founded in 1965, the IHRC promotes research on international migration with a special emphasis on immigrant and refugee life in the U.S.

Immigration to the United States, 1789-1930 This is a web-based collection of selected historical materials from Harvard's libraries, archives, and museums that documents voluntary immigration to the US from the signing of the Constitution to the onset of the Great Depression.
In the First Person Indexes more than 2,500 collections of oral history from around the world, including letters, diaries, oral histories, memoirs, and autobiographies.
United States Historical Census Browser  County-level demographic, economic, and social data from 1790 to 1960.
National Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections (NUCMC) Provides and promotes bibliographic access to the nation's documentary heritage by production of cataloging describing archival and manuscript collections held by eligible repositories located throughout the United States and its territories. Also provides free searching, via NUCMC gateways, of archival and manuscript cataloging in OCLC WorldCat.
Repositories of Primary Research  A listing of over 5000 websites describing holdings of manuscripts, archives, rare books, historical photographs, and other primary sources.

Oyez, Oyez, Oyez

The aim of this site is to create a complete and authoritative archive of Supreme Court audio covering the entire span from October 1955 through the most recent release and currently the OYEZ Project provides access to more than 2000 hours of Supreme Court audio.
ViVa: A Bibliography of Women's History Viva is a current bibliography of women's and gender history in historical and women's studies journals. Articles in English, French, German, Dutch, and Scandinavian are selected from 180 European, American, Canadian, Asian, Australian and New Zealand journals. All bibliographic descriptions are stored in the ViVa database. It now contains more than 10,000 records describing articles from 1975 onwards. You can search the database, and, for titles from 1995 on it is possible to browse by year of publication.

American Memory Project  (Library of Congress) The National Digital Library Program is an effort to digitize and electronically deliver the distinctive, historical Americana holdings at the Library of Congress, including photographs, manuscripts, rare books, maps, recorded sound, and moving pictures.

Century of Lawmaking for a New Nation (Law Library of Congress)

This site brings together online the records and acts of Congress from the Continental Congress and Constitutional Convention through the 43rd Congress, including the first three volumes of the Congressional Record, 1873-75.

Early English Books Online Digital facsimile page images of virtually every work printed in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and British North America and works in English printed elsewhere from 1473-1700.
Euro Docs  Primary Historical Documents from Western Europe Selected Transcriptions, Facsimiles and Translations. They shed light on key historical happenings within the respective countries (and within the broadest sense of political, economic, social and cultural history). The order of documents is chronological wherever possible.
The Papers of the Presidents Created at Yale Law School, these digital documents are relevant to the fields of Law, History, Economics, Politics, Diplomacy and Government.
Valley of the Shadow  Two Communities in the American Civil War. The Valley of the Shadow Project takes two communities, one Northern and one Southern, through the experience of the American Civil War. The project is a hypermedia archive of thousands of sources for the period before, during, and after the Civil War for Augusta County, Virginia, and Franklin County, Pennsylvania. Those sources include newspapers, letters, diaries, photographs, maps, church records, population census, agricultural census, and military records.
Women and Social Movements in the United States: 1600-2000

Primary and secondary documents, including text, images, and web links about key issues in women's social history.
Women of Protest: Photographs from the Records of the National Woman's Party Women of Protest presents images that depict the NWP's broad range of tactics as well as individual portraits of organization leaders and members. The photographs span from about 1875 to 1938 but largely date between 1913 and 1922. They document the National Woman's Party's push for passage and ratification of the 19th Amendment, as well as its later campaign for passage of the Equal Rights Amendment.
