  Document Delivery Service

The Document Delivery Service provides IWU faculty and staff and Study Abroad Students with electronic copies and loan materials from The Ames Library collection.

To request a loan:

  • Submit a request using the "Request" button in the Ames Library Catalog. Items from Current Periodicals, Reference, Reserves and Special Collections/Archives may not be requested as a loan. An electronic copy of an article or chapter may be requested from materials in these collections. (Not all materials held in Special Collections/Archives are available for scanning due to the condition of the item.)
  • Requested items will be pulled and charged to your account in the Ames Library Catalog. If a request is unable to be filled (e.g., not on shelf, poor condition), you will be notified via email.
  • The material will be delivered to your departmental mailbox. Loan items will be delivered only when school is in session. During the summer and breaks, items will be held for pickup at the Circulation Desk during business hours. Items not picked up within 2 weeks will be returned to the shelves.

To request an electronic copy:

  • Journal Articles - Use the Document Delivery Service when the library has the article in paper format only. You can check for electronic full text holdings using "Journals We Own".
  • Book Chapter - If more than one chapter is needed from a single volume, the entire book should be requested through the Ames Library Catalog.

Submit a request through your ILLiad account using the "Request Document Delivery Service" button. Enter the required citation information into the appropriate fields and submit the request. You will be notified via email when the requested item has been scanned and posted to your ILLiad account as a pdf file. If an item cannot be located, the request will automatically be sent as an interlibrary loan request.
