IWU Alum Kindred Named to Sportswriters Hall of Fame

Illinois Wesleyan University graduate Dave Kindred has been elected to the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association Hall of Fame in Salisbury, N.C.

Kindred, a 1963 IWU graduate, will be inducted, along with veteran CBS broadcaster Verne Lundquist, on April 30. Joe Buck of Fox Sports and Rick Reilly of Sports Illustrated will be honored as this year's winners of the national sportscaster and sportswriter of the year awards, respectively.

Kindred has been a newspaper columnist for 37 years, covering sports for numerous newspapers and magazines, including The Sporting News, the Washington Post and Golf Digest.
He is the 1991 winner of the Red Smith Award for lifetime achievement in sports journalism, as well as a multiple winner of the "National Sportswriter of the Year" award.
He has authored seven books., most recently “Sound and Fury: Two Powerful Lives, One Fateful Friendship,” which recreates the unlikely connection between heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali and “heavyweight” broadcaster Howard Cosell.
