February 17-18
The Illinois Wesleyan women's 200 freestyle relay team finished first with a time of 1:39.79 and the 400 free relay team also placed first with a time of 3:39.22 at the Midwest Invitational, held at the U. of Chicago Feb. 17-18. The Titans' relay team consists of Anne Kopf, Robin Johnson, Angie Tomazin and Jessica Hohl. Caitlin VonHuben got third in the 200 free and 200 breast and fourth in the 200 fly while freshman Nicole Litzner got third in the 100 and 200 back and the 500 free. For the men, Zac Birch placed third in the 1650 freestyle event.
February 9-11
Five women and one man represent the Illinois Wesleyan swimming teams on the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin all-league squads. Sophomore Ben Rock (Dunlap, Ill., Chillicothe IVC HS) is the lone IWU male representative while the all-CCIW women performers were seniors Robin Johnson (Peoria, Ill., Dunlap HS) and Caitlin VonHuben (Orland Park, Ill., Sandburg HS), junior Jessica Hohl (Winfield, Ill., Wheaton North HS), sophomore Anne Kopf (Grosse Pointe Shores, Mich., North HS), and freshman Angie Tomazin (Warrenville, Ill., Wheaton Warrenville South HS).
Kopf, Johnson, VonHuben and Tomazin comprised the 200 free relay team that finished first with an NCAA Division III 'B' qualifying time of 1:37.98.Kopf got second in the 100 free with a time of 54.27 seconds, just ahead of Johnson in third. Johnson also placed third in the 200 free and the 50 free (24.69) and VonHuben got third in the 500 free (5:17.62).
Rock got a second place finish in the 100 breast and swam a time of 2:10.38 to finish third in the men's 200 breast.
The IWU women's team finished third and the men's team was fourth at the CCIW meet, held Feb. 9-11 at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wis. The women garnered 562.5 points and the men had 337 points. The winning teams were Wheaton (women, 955.5 points) and Carthage (men, 1,072).
February 11

February 10
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s team is in third place and the men’s team is in fourth place after day two of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin swimming championships on Fri., Feb. 10 at Carthage in Kenosha, Wis. The women have amassed 385 points and the men have 194. Carthage leads the men’s title chase with 650 points and Wheaton leads the women’s race with 642 points. Robin Johnson placed third in the women’s 200 free, just ahead of teammate Jessica Hohl, and Caitlin VonHuben earned a fifth place in the 400 individual medley. The IWU 800 free relay team finished second. For the men, Ben Rock got a second place finish in the 200 breaststroke and the men’s 800 free relay team finished fourth. Competition concludes Sat., Feb. 11.
February 9
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s team is in third place and the men’s team is in fourth place after day one of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin swimming championships on Thurs., Feb. 9 at Carthage in Kenosha, Wis. The women have amassed 188 points and the men have 89. Wheaton leads both the women (274) and men’s (284) in points. The IWU free relay team finished first with an NCAA Division III 'B' qualifying time of 1:37.98.Caitlin Von Huben got third in the 500 free (5:17.62) and Robin Johnson placed third in the 50 free with a time of 24.69 seconds. The women’s 400 free relay team also earned a third place finish. Competition continues Friday and Saturday.
January 28
The Illinois Wesleyan men's and women's swim teams split a double dual meet with wins against North Central and losses to Wheaton. The women defeated North Central, 80-16, and lost to Wheaton, 71-42, while the men beat North Central, 75-30, and lost to Wheaton 89-26. For the women, Erin Storck won the 500 free, Angie Tomazin won the 200 back and Caitlin VonHuben won the 200 breast. Robin Johnon got third in both the 100 and 200 free. For the men, Zac Birch claimed second place finishes in both the 1000 free and 200 breast.
January 20
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s swim team defeated Millikin, 126-87, and the men’s team lost to Millikin, 117-63, in dual meets on Fri., Jan. 20 at IWU’s Fort Natatorium. Anne Kopf was a two-event winner, taking first in the 50 and 100 free, while other women’s individual winners were Erin Storck (1000 free), Jessica Hohl (200 free), Caitlin VonHuben (500 free), Angie Tomazin (400 IM), and Dorothy Wawrzak (200 back). Zac Birch (1650 free), Tim Achstatter (200 free), Mike Friedman (200 back) and Ben Rock (100 breast) were individual first place finishers for the IWU men’s team.
January 14
The Illinois Wesleyan women's swim team lost to DePauw, 128-83, and the men's team fell to the Tigers, 171-45, in a dual meet in Greencastle, Ind., on Sat., Jan. 14. For the IWU men, Mike Friedman was a double winner as he captured the 200 freestyle in a time of 1:58.36 and also won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:01.46. On the women's side, Jess Hohl won the 100 freestyle in a time of 57.10 seconds and got second place in the 200 freestyle. Freshman Angie Tomazin finished second in the 200 individual medley and was third in the 100 butterfly.
January 7
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s swim team defeated Principia, 141-49, and the men’s team lost to Principia, 97-83, in dual meets on Sat., Jan. 7 at IWU’s Fort Natatorium. Caitlin VonHuben was the winner of the 500 free and was on the winning 200 free relay team while also finishing second in the 200 individual medley. Other winners for the women were Taissa Boyko (1000 free), Angie Tomazin (200 free, 200 fly), Jess Hohl (50 and 100 free), Jenifer Becker (200 back) and Dorothy Wawrzak (100 breast). Ben Rock won the 200 free and 200 breast for the men while Zac Birch claimed the200 fly and Dan O’Keefe won the 500 free.
December 2-3
The Illinois Wesleyan women’s swim team placed fifth (of 10) and the men’s team was 10th (of 11) at the DePauw Invitational on Dec. 2-3 in Greencastle, Ind. The women amassed 310 points as the winning team was Wittenberg with 788. DePauw won the men’s event with 710 points and the Titans finished with 66. Jessica Hohl finished third in the 200 free, sixth in the 100 free and swam a leg on the 200 free relay team that finished third. Anne Kopf, Robin Johnson and Jennifer Becker comprised the other members of that relay team. In other finals, Angie Tomazin was sixth in the 200 individual medley, Erin Storck was eighth in the 1650 free, and the 800 free relay team also placed third.
November 19
The Illinois Wesleyan women's swimming team finished second of nine and the men's team placed third of eight at the IWU Invitational, held at Fort Natatorium on Sat., Nov. 19. Freshman Angie Tomazin finished first for the Titan women in the 200 free with a time of 2:03.45 and was third in the 100 butterfly and 500 freestyle. For the men, freshman Kyle Clemson was second in the 3-meter and third in the 1-meter diving events while sophomore Ben Rock was third in the 100 breaststroke and sixth in the 200 individual medley.
November 11-12
The Illinois Wesleyan men's and women's swimming and diving teams both placed sixth of eight teams at the U. of Chicago Maroon Invitational on Nov. 11-12. The Titan men amassed 140 points as the host school won with 848.5 points. Kyle Clemson was fifth for IWU in both the 1- and 3-meter diving events. The women's team had 238 points as UW-Oshkosh finished first with 625. Dorothy Wawrzak was third in the 100 back with a time of 1:05.10 and Anne Kopf was fourth in the 50 free with a time of 25.80 seconds.
November 5
The Illinois Wesleyan women's swim team defeated the University of Chicago, 114-113, while the men's team fell to the Maroons, 120-83, in a dual meet at Chicago on Sat., Nov. 5. Winners on the women's side included Anne Kopf (50 freestyle), Angie Tomazin (200 individual medley), Jenifer Becker (200 backstroke) and Caitlin VonHuben (200 breaststroke). Those four swimmers also teamed to win the 400 medley relay event. For the men the individual winners were Brandon Gorson in the 500 freestyle and Mike Friedman in the 200 breaststroke.
October 29
The Illinois Wesleyan women's swimming team got first place and the men's team got second place competing against three other teams at the Fall Classic, held at IWU's Fort Natatorium on Oct. 29. The women amassed 66 points to edge Millikin (64) and Augustana (60) while the men had 63 points and lost only to Millikin (74). Jessica Hohl was the winner of the 200 freestyle and swam on the winning 500 free relay team. For the men, Brandon Gorson finished first in both the 100 and 200 freestyle events.
October 28
The Illinois Wesleyan men's swim team opened its season with a dual meet loss to Wabash, 174-121, at IWU's Fort Natatorium on Fri., Oct. 28. The Titans got six first place finishes from the Gorsons - Justin won the 100 fly, 100 and 200 back, while Brandon took first in the 100, 200 and 500 free events. They were also on the winning 220 medley relay team.
September 28
Illinois Wesleyan University swimming and diving coach Teresa Fish has been elected, along with her entire 1986-87 team, to the Kenyon College Athletic Association Hall of Fame.The induction ceremony took place as part of Kenyon's Homecoming weekend on Sept. 17 in Gambier, Ohio. The 1987 women's swim team at Kenyon won the national Division III championship, taking 15 of 18 events, including all five relay events.A native of Darien, Ill., and a graduate of Hinsdale South High School, Fish earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1988 at Kenyon, where from 1985-88 she won 14 NCAA Division III swimming titles and earned 27 swimming All-American honors.Fish joined the IWU coaching staff in 1995 and led the men's swimming team to its first-ever College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship in 1996.
