May 6
Illinois Wesleyan juniors Dan Chang (Palos Hills, Stagg HS) and Paul Oehrlein (Des Plaines, Maine West HS) were both chosen to the second team of the all-conference men's tennis squads in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Go here for entire team. Chang, who was a first team all-CCIW player in 2007 and a second team all-CCIW selection in 2006, finished with a record of 14-12 (11-11 at No. 1 singles) and Paul Oehrlein was 12-13 overall (11-11 at No. 2 singles). The pair had a 9-12 mark at No. 1 doubles. As a team, Wesleyan finished with a 7-15 dual match record and was 2-3 in the CCIW regular season.
April 26
The Illinois Wesleyan men's tennis team finished fourth in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championships, held April 25-26 at Bloomington's Evergreen Racquet Club. The Titans defeated Elmhurst, 8-1, in the first round before losing to eventual champion Wheaton, 9-0, in the semifinals. Augustana defeated IWU, 9-0, in the third place match. Wesleyan finished with a 7-15 dual match record and was 2-3 in the CCIW regular season. Dan Chang finished with a record of 14-12 (11-11 at No. 1 singles) and Paul Oehrlein was 12-13 overall (11-11 at No. 2 singles). The pair had a 9-12 mark at No. 1 doubles. Freshman David Dulmage finished his season with a 6-7 record at No. 6 singles and was 7-11 overall.
April 21
In preparation for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament April 25-26, the Illinois Wesleyan men's tennis team claimed a 9-0 win at Knox on Monday, April 21. Dan Chang is 9-9 at No. 1 singles and Paul Oehrlein is 9-9 at No. 2 singles and they pair up for a 7-10 record at No. 1 doubles. Art Kastl and Vijit Chouhan are 5-8 at No. 2 doubles. Kastl played up at No. 3 singles on April 21 and defeated Knox's Josh Moten, 6-3, 6-3. The doubles team of Ryan Goergen and David Dulmage is 6-3 at No. 3 doubles. The Titans are 5-13 this spring but have won four of nine since March 29 and played close matches last week with St. Francis (lost, 6-3) and St. Ambrose (lost, 5-4). The CCIW championships are at Bloomington's Evergreen Racquet Club.
April 17
Illinois Wesleyan got three singles wins but lost by a 6-3 score to St. Francis on Thursday, April 17 at IWU's Beadles-Morse Courts. Junior Dan Chang was a winner at No. 1 singles, downing Scott Sturges, 6-2, 6-0. Junior Paul Oehrlein defeated Pat Haaker, 6-3, 7-5, to win No. 2 singles and freshman David Dulmage won No. 6 singles over Jake Quigley, 7-5, 1-6, 10-7. Chang stands at 7-9 in dual matches at No. 1 and Oehrlein is 8-8 at No. 2 this season. The Titans are 4-12 overall and host St. Ambrose at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 19.
April 16
The Illinois Wesleyan men's tennis team, winners of three of its last six matches, sports a 4-11 record after an 8-1 loss at home to Wisconsin-Whitewater on Wednesday, April 16. The lone win came from the IWU No. 3 doubles team of sophomore Ryan Goergen and freshman David Dulmage, who defeated Johnny Reed and Alex Mory, 8-8 (7-5 tiebreaker). The team of Goergen and Dulmage are 6-2 overall in doubles and the only IWU doubles team with a winning record. IWU plays host to St. Francis at 4:15 on Thursday, April 17.
April 4
The Illinois Wesleyan men's tennis team improved to 3-8 overall and 1-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin with an 8-1 win at Elmhurst on Friday, April 4. The Titans got wins in singles positions two through six and in all three doubles positions. Art Kastl improved to 2-0 in CCIW play with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Ryan Applegate at No. 4 singles. Kastl also teamed with Vijit Chouhan for a No. 2 doubles win by a score of 8-4 against the Bluejays' Applegate and Ryan Korsch. The Titans are off until Saturday, April 12 when they play two conference matches in Rock Island, Ill. - vs. Augustana at 9 a.m. and against North Central at noon.
March 18
The Illinois Wesleyan men’s tennis team lost a 7-2 decision to Wisconsin-LaCrosse on Tuesday, March 18, in Orlando, Fla. as part of the squad’s Southern trip. The Titans are 0-6 this spring and have also lost to Franklin and Marshall (5-4) and Grinnell (9-0) in Florida. Against UW-LaCrosse, Junior Paul Oehrhein won his No. 2 singles match over Joey Van Lieshout, 7-5, 6-2, then teamed with junior Dan Chang to win the No. 1 doubles match against Van Lieshout and Dale Wroblewski, 8-6.
January 4
Seven lettermen return for the 2008 Illinois Wesleyan men's tennis team, which opens its season at Monmouth on February 23. The Titans look to improve on last season, which saw them open with as 12 match losing streak before winning four of their last seven to finish 4-15 in dual meets. IWU finished fourth in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship tournament. Leading the returning players is junior Dan Chang, who was named to the first team of the CCIW men's tennis squads by league coaches. Chang, who was a second team all-CCIW player in 2006, had an overall No. 1 singles record of 6-12 (1-3 in the league). He teamed with Paul Oehrlein for a 7-12 mark at No. 1 singles.
