Q. Who needs to audition for a choir?
A. All students must audition for choral ensembles
Q. Must students re-audition each year?
A. Returning University Choir members do not need to re-audition. One-year Collegiate Choir veterans must re-audition. Chamber Singers' members do not need to re-audition, but the availability of positions will vary from semester to semester.
Q. When are auditions?
A. Auditions are held in during the first week of classes in the fall in Presser Hall Room 164.
Q. How do I prepare for my audition?
A. Students do not need to bring a prepared piece for the audition. Auditions consist of a range check, aural skills tests, and sight reading.
Q. Will I have any say about which ensemble I join?
A. Students should indicate in which ensemble(s) they are interested, but the final decision is the director's.
Q. If I don't get in the ensemble I prefer, can I audition later in the year?
A. Students are welcome to re-audition for University Choir at the semester break. Collegiate Choir is a two-semester commitment. Students are not added in the second semester except in extenuating circumstances. Students may audition again for Chamber Singers the following semester, depending upon the availability of openings.
Q. How many concerts do the IWU Choirs perform each year?
A. In the fall semester, the ensembles participate in a joint Fall Choral Concert and Christmas Concert, and Chamber Singers presents their own concert or shares a concert with other chamber ensembles. In the spring semester, the Collegiate Choir tours during spring break and sometimes performs on the Spring Choral Concert. Chamber Singers performs their own concert, and University Choir performs on the Spring Choral Concert.
Q. When and where do rehearsals take place?
A. All rehearsals take place in Presser Hall room 161. University Choir rehearses on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 3:00-3:50. Collegiate Choir rehearses on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 4:00-5:15, and Thursday from 5:30-6:30. Chamber Singers rehearses on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:35-3:50.
