Dr. Todd Tucker, Associate Professor of Theory, retired at the end of the 2006 academic year. Dr. Tucker began his career at IWU in 1981 and completed twenty-five years of service. Prior to coming to IWU, he taught for seven years at Northern State University, where he earned tenure. Dr. Tucker holds the B.F.A. degree in music education from the University of South Dakota, the M.M. degree in theory from Indiana University, and the Ph.D. in theory from Indiana University.
During his career at IWU, Professor Tucker taught courses in theory and related courses, such as advanced analysis and counterpoint in addition to May Term travel courses (usually to Ireland), and served as the Coordinator of the School’s First-year Theory Program. Professor Tucker is also an accomplished performer on a variety of instruments, including piano, organ, and the hammered dulcimer and has presented many solo and chamber music recitals; with respect to the latter, he has been a frequent accompanist to fellow faculty members.
During his long career at IWU, Dr. Tucker has become a much-admired colleague and much-liked teacher; in fact, for three consecutive years in the 1990’s, he was a finalist for the “Professor of the Year Award.” Also, he has been an active contributor to service to the University. He served on the Curriculum Council, the Mellon Center Advisory Committee, the Hearing Committee, the Student Life Committee, and on every committee in the School of Music.
On the eve of Dr. Tucker’s retirement, we were pleased to announce that the University appointed Dr. Tucker to the position of Associate Professor Emeritus.
