Biography

Tenor Thomas Booth received his education from the University of North Carolina, from the Juilliard School in New York, from the Opera School of Chicago attached to the Lyric Opera of Chicago and from Northwestern International University in Europe. His major teachers included Alexander Kipnis, Hans Heinz, Italo Tajo, James King, John Alexander, and Oren Brown.  He is a member of The National Association of Teachers of Singing, NATS and member of the local central Illinois chapter, CILNATS and of The American Guild of Musical Artists, AGMA.   Mr. Booth has performed Opera and Concert throughout the United States and Europe and around the world.  He sang for nine seasons as a principal and leading soloist with the Metropolitan Opera, for five seasons with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, at the New York City Opera, the San Diego Opera, with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center, with the Rome Opera, in Germany at the Frankurt Oper, with the Stadttheater Aachen, in France with Opera de Nice, Opera de Montpellier, Opera de Nantes, the Opera Royal de Wallonie in Belgium, the Netherlands Opera in Amsterdam, the Tranasvaal Opera in South Africa, at Royal Festival Hall in London, with the Warsaw Philharmonic in Poland, in Mexico, in Japan, with the Jerusalem Philharmonic in Israel and the Israel Symphony Orchestra in Tel Aviv,  the Dallas Symphony, the New World Symphony, the Hartford Symphony, the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, the Stockholm Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Welsh National Opera Orchestra, and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.  Mr. Booth has toured the United States with the Mantovani Orchestra as soloist in a tribute to Mario Lanza, has recently toured with the New Sigmund Romberg Orchestra and currently performs a one person musical play called "Remembering Mario Lanza: His Life and His Music". He has recorded for Erato Disques, Albany Records UK, and for Decca/Argo Records, and for Lawrence University Recordings.  He has been seen on PBS in Illinois and Pennsylvania, on Polish National Television and heard many times on National Public Radio via live performances from the Met, the Lyric Opera of Chicago and in performances of his recordings.  In addition to his teaching activities for Illinois Wesleyan University, Mr. Booth is on the faculties of Monmouth College, Black Hawk College and Carl Sandburg College, and previously at Knox College. He has given many Master Classes at both schools and at music festivals and also maintains a private teaching studio at his home.
