Biography

Professor Bondurant-Koehler received her B.M.E. from Murray State University (Murray, Ky) and M.M. in clarinet performance from Ball State University (Muncie, In). She also attended the Institute of European Studies in Bregenz, Austria. Dr. Bondurant-Koehler received her D.M.E. from Indiana University. Her dissertation topic is "The Effect of Selected Modes of Music Instruction on Children's Music Preference". Other research areas include the following: creativity, curriculum development, Gardner's multiple intelligences, and elementary education majors' attitudes toward music and musical experiences. She received a diploma from the International Gesellschaft fur Musikpedagogische Fortbildung e.v. Rothenburg, Germany (Music and Movement in Education and Therapy: The Various Applications of Percussion and Orff Instruments Worldwide) and a certificate from the Orff Institute in Salzburg, Austria. In addition, she holds Kodály certification (level one) from Indiana University and has taught music education and woodwinds at Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C., Indiana University, Bloomington, In., and instrumental, vocal, and general music in both public and private schools. Dr. Bondurant-Koehler was a 1996 guest lecturer in music education at Christ Church College, Canterbury, England and has also presented at the MENC National Convention, IMEA/North Central Division Conference, and the National American Orff-Schulwerk Association convention.

Dr. Bondurant-Koehler is an accomplished clarinetist, having studied with Earl Bates, Robert Marcellus, Rolf Legbandt, and Donald Story. She has performed in numerous orchestras and solo recitals, and was a member of the Prairie Wind Ensemble during a tour of Germany, Austria, and Italy. She also toured France and Belgium with the Limestone College Jazz Ensemble. In addition, she is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, Phi Kappa Lambda, Alpha Chi, Delta Kappa Gamma, Organization of American Kodály Educators, Midwest Kodály Music Educators Association, American Orff-Schulwerk Association, The International Clarinet Society, The Society for General Music Teachers Education, Illinois Music Educators Association, and Music Educators National Conference.
