Summer Music Program 2008

As part of its 2008 Summer Music Programs, Illinois Wesleyan University offers a Chamber Music Festival and Camp (June 13 - July 3) to young musicians of college, high school, and junior high ages, who wish to participate in intensive musical training on the historic campus of Illinois Wesleyan University.   All performances are free and open to the public and take place in Westbrook Auditorium, Presser Hall, 1210 Park St., Bloomington, IL.

Illinois Chamber Music Festival and Camp at IWU

June 13 - July 3, 2008

The Illinois Chamber Music Festival and Camp at IWU for strings, piano, winds, and harp will be held June 13 through July 3.  This program is designed for young musicians who wish to participate in intensive chamber music training.  The schedule consists of daily coaching, rehearsals, master classes, and performances by students and faculty.  Other studies and activities include singing, conversational Bulgarian, international dance, tennis, and swimming.

Pre-formed groups with prepared repertoire will be able to perform in opening master classes. 

Tuition Cost for 3 weeks (June 13 - July 3) Tuition is $800.  Room and board for out of town participants is an additional $795.  Cost for 2 weeks (June 20 - July 3) Tuition is $600.  Room and board for out-of-town participants is an additional $520.  Need-based scholarships are available.

Audition Information First time students must audition or send a recording with a 5-minute solo of your choice.

Performances

The Illinois Chamber Music Festival will offer a spring 2008 performance series between April 1 and April 5, 2008.  Performances will take place at Illinois Wesleyan University and Hope College, Holland, MI.  Updated information will follow.

International Chamber Music Festival--Bulgaria 2008

Participants of the IWU Chamber Music Festival and Cello Camp are invited to join us for a 18-day program in Bulgaria, the International Chamber Music Festival and Concert Tour (ICMF), July 8-25, 2008.  Please visit the ICMF website at http://www.miso-music.eu/icmf.htm, and let us know of your interest.

Pre-formed groups participating in both the IWU and Bulgaria festivals will have additional performance opportunities at the opening of the Bulgaria Festival.  A few scholarships are available for those who participate in both IWU and Bulgaria Festivals.

The International Chamber Music Festival in Bulgaria is not a part of the Illinois Chamber Music Festival at IWU.  Faculty from the Illinois Festival participate in ICMF in an advisory and teaching capacity only.

Illinois Wesleyan Cello Camp Due to the expansion of the Illinois Chamber Music Festival to 3 weeks and the following trip to Bulgaria, Cello Camp 9 has been rescheduled to Summer 2009. For summer 2008, cellists are encouraged to take part in the Illinois Chamber Music Festival and Camp.  In addition to chamber music groups, there will be cello ensembles, cello choir, and master classes with distinguished guest cellists, Seta Baltayan, Bulgaria, and Tanya Remenikova, University of Minnesota.
