How do I declare a major?
Students typically declare a major before the end of their 4th semester at IWU, however, this decision can be made earlier in a student’s career. To officially declare a major or minor the necessary forms must be completed in the Registrar’s Office (located in Holmes Hall). Contact the Registrar’s Office at (309) 556-3161. Students entering professional schools (ex: School of Nursing) do not need to make an additional declaration of a major.
How do I know what credits transfer?
All questions concerning transfer credit should be addressed to the Registrar's Office at (309) 556-3161. Information is also available in the IWU catalog under "Transfer of Credits". If you have a copy of your grades it would be helpful to bring those to your advising session in January, but no work can be entered on the IWU transcript until we receive an official transcript from the school. Your transcript will be evaluated by the Registrar's Office in conjunction with the Director of General Education prior to your advising session. At your advising appointment your advisor will go over any general education requirements or categories that have not been fulfilled and will also go over your major requirements. If, after meeting with your advisor, you still have questions about your courses that did or did not transfer, you should come to the Registrar's Office.
