"Physics is a liberal arts education
for a technological society"
-J. M. Pimbley
It might be best to call it "the fundamentals", rather than "physics": Learning these fundamentals well extends students' horizons significantly beyond the confines of any one discipline. We teach fundamental concepts and tools, in small classes and through individual projects, to students who become physicists or engineers (of all sorts) or chemists or biologists or materials scientists or.... Ultimately, our program is about learning how to learn and how to communicate that learning. Toward that end, we expect that our students will incorporate a significant experiential element (ideally one involving research) into their undergraduate majors.
