IWU Announces Academic All-Conference Winners

Andrew Freeman and Kerri Gravlin are the Illinois Wesleyan winter sport winners and Drew Kepple and Molly Coers are the spring sport winners of the Jack Swartz Academic All-Conference Award, presented by the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

Freeman (men’s basketball), Kepple (men’s golf) and Coers (softball) all graduated in May 2007 and Gravlin is a senior women’s basketball player. Freeman had a 3.68 grade-point average as a business major, Kepple had a 3.9 GPA as a biology major and Coers graduated with a 3.93 GPA in accounting. Gravlin, whose father (Dean) was an Academic All-American men’s basketball player at IWU for men’s basketball in 1972 and 1973, is a business major with a 3.8 grade-point average.

The conference honor, named after the former league commissioner and long-time Wheaton coach and athletic director, goes to one male and one female athlete from each of the three sport seasons at the eight CCIW schools. To be eligible, an individual must have an overall grade point average of 3.5 or above at the beginning of the season of competition and must have lettered in their respective sport for that season.

In addition to the four Swartz honorees, 16 other IWU winter sport athletes and 40 other spring athletes earned academic all-conference honors. To be eligible, an individual needs an overall grade point average of 3.30 or better and must have lettered in their respective sport for that season. Transfer students and freshmen are eligible for both awards.
