Registration

Well before it is time for you to begin planning your return, you will need to register for the next semester's classes at IWU. To do so from abroad, you will need to consult with you academic advisor via email.

Because you are off campus, you will need to view the course offerings on line and and contact your advisor to have  courses approved prior to your registration.  You will be sent a notice via email about the dates for academic advising.  When advising begins, you will be able to see the course selections on the web via My.IWU.  If you are for some reason unable to access the Program of Classes online, contact the Registrar's Office and they will send you a PDF version.

Once you have chosen your courses and consulted with your advisor--and received you registration PIN -- you should ask your advisor to send your course selections (including course number, course title, and CRN) to the Registrar's Office and they will register you on the appropriate day.  You can also register yourself from off campus through My.IWU, but most students find the time difference to be inconvenient and would rather the Registrar’s Office take care of the actual registration.  In your conversations with your advisor, you should make certain you obtain your registration PIN so you can see your courses and make any necessary changes.  Registration information can also be accessed on the Registrar’s Office Web site.

Housing

Another arrangement you will need to make well before the end of your study abroad experience will be housing.  Indeed, the Office of Residential Life (ORL) recommends that students planning to study abroad set up, in advance of their departure, their plans for living either on or off campus when they return to IWU.

Housing login codes are sent to students through campus mail or by USPS as well as to each student’s IWU email account.  Each student will use the housing login code to register his/her housing plans for the upcoming semester.

Students who plan to live in a residence hall but who will not be on campus during the housing lottery process are asked to indicate a campus proxy -- a friend on campus who will make housing decisions on their behalf.  This person will be notified of the student’s lottery number and make binding decisions on behalf of the student who is away.  It is important that students discuss in depth the range of options that might be available as housing is concerned so that the proxy can make appropriate decisions in the student’s absence.  ORL contacts all students studying abroad to remind them to have a proxy and to notify the proxy of their housing choices.

If you have any questions, please contact ORL or Matt Damschroder.

Transcripts and Grades

Students studying on all but the IWU London and IWU Madrid programs are responsible for ensuring that their abroad transcripts are sent to and received by IWU.  Your study abroad program will not issue a transcript if you have any outstanding charges with them and IWU will not grant credit without the formal transcript.

All grades for coursework abroad will be included in your IWU GPA.

Before leaving IWU to study abroad, you will have completed a Course Approval Form.  Upon return to campus, you will need to complete another Course Approval Form for any coursework not listed on that original form.
