Voice Instructor Biography
Harold Gray Meers, tenor, has enjoyed a wide and varied career across the United States as an operatic performer. His professional debut was in 1997 with the Opera Theatre of St. Louis as Ferrando in Così fan tutte. His repertoire reflects that he is an eclectic performer who is at home in Opera, Operetta and Musical Theater alike. Among his most recent credits are: Nemorino in The Elixir of Love with Chautauqua Opera, the Duke in Rigoletto with Opera Santa Barbara, Rinuccio in Gianni Schicchi with Opera Santa Barbara, Rodolfo in La Boheme with Fremont Opera, the Novice in Billy Budd with San Francisco Opera, Camille in The Merry Widow with Virginia Opera, Ernesto in Don Pasquale with Baltimore Opera, Little Bat in Susannah with Opera Company of Philadelphia, Laertes in Hamlet and Fritz in the Grand Duchess of Gerolstein with Opera Theatre of St Louis, Pedrillo in Abduction from the Seraglio with Boston Lyric Opera, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor and Mac the Knife in Threepenny Opera with West Bay Opera. In addition, Mr. Meers has been seen at Glimmerglass Opera, Opera Omaha, Opera North, Berkeley Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, Toledo Opera, New Orleans Opera, Sacramento Opera and Bangkok Opera. Highlights of his other roles include Cassio in Otello, Alfredo in La Traviata, Simonson in Machover’s Resurrection, Acis in Acis and Galatea, Tamino in Die Zauberflöte, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Frederic in Pirates of Penzance, and Alfred in Die Fledermaus,
Mr. Meers is an active concert soloist and performs frequently with his wife, soprano Saundra DeAthos. He received training in the young artist programs of Opera North, Des Moines Metro Opera and Glimmerglass Opera and holds degrees from Judson College, Illinois State University and the Boston University Opera Institute. |
