Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts Music Theatre Liason Biography
Scott Susong, Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts/Music Theatre Liaison, holds an M.F.A. in Theatre from Towson University (thesis, “Investigating the Director’s Role in the Production of a New Musical”) and a B.A. in Theatre from the University of Texas at El Paso. He joined the IWU faculty in the fall of 2007. This season, in addition to directing Working, Scott was musical director for Scrooge! in McPherson, directed The Musical of Musicals in the E. Melba Johnson Kirkpatrick Laboratory Theatre and Edges in the Phoenix Theatre. He taught Musical Theatre performance in the undergraduate program at Towson University and served as the Associate Academy Director for the Summer Academy for the Arts at the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. From 2001-2007 Scott served as the Director of Theatre at Roland Park Country School in Baltimore, MD. In 1998 with his wife, Cristen, he co-founded Curtain Call Productions, LLC were he still serves as Artistic Director. CCP credits include Co-producing with Towson University, directing and designing the world premiere of Lindbergh Baby Kidnapped; a new musical, at Baltimore's Theatre Project that was featured in American Theatre's January 2002 musicals issue, as well as presenting a reading of Deceptions: Wind of Change, a new musical at the Audrey Herman Spotlighters. In 2005, CCP started an educational wing, Summer on Stage, which produced the musical revue As Thousands Cheer and an outdoor production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream as part of two separate four-week summer theatre intensives. Other professional directing and design credits include The House of Bernarda Alba, Annie, The Miracle Worker, Once on this Island, The Pajama Game, Two Gentlemen of Verona(the musical), COLE, Fiddler on the Roof, The World Goes ‘Round, Antigone, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, Annie Get Your Gun, WomanSpeak, The Marriage of Figaro, Can-Can, The Sound of Music, Jane Eyre(the musical), The Good Woman of Setzuan, Allegro, Cabaret, Spalding Gray's Rivkala's Ring and three original interdisciplinary pieces: The Poe Project, Simple Gifts (Greece tour), and Donne in Amore: Heroines in Verse (Italy tour). Scott is a member of SSDC, the Society of Stage Directors and Chorographers and MTEA, the Musical Theatre Educators Alliance – International. He is the 2001 recipient of a Towson Graduate Student Association Award of Excellence, the 2005 recipient of the Passano Family Interdisciplinary Chair for Communications and the Sans Tache Faculty Prize at RPCS and is included in the 9th edition of Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers. As a performer Scott was last seen on stage as the Soldier in the 2003 concert version of Jesus Christ Superstar starring original cast member Yvonne Elliman, and featuring guest Sir Tim Rice. Other stage credits include the 1996-97 national and international tours of The Sound of Music (Rolf), starring Marie Osmond and featured as part of the 100 Days of Wonder as Hong Kong returned to Chinese sovereignty. Dreamcoat (Joseph – 10th Anniversary Production), Guys & Dolls (Nathan Detroit), and Oklahoma! (Curly). (Concert Credits) An Evening with Tim Rice w/Sir Tim Rice. He is the proud father of ten-year-old Elijah and four-year-old Eden.
