WORKERS MEMORIAL TAG DAY

2007

What is WORKERS MEMORIAL TAG DAY?

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the Great Plains LIFE Foundation have formed a partnership to sponsor the WORKERS MEMORIAL TAG DAY. The purpose of this annual event is to make Illinois drivers aware of the importance of safety in highway construction zones.

What does my organization have to do to be a part of this event?

Your organization should select a weekend sometime during the month of April, Highway Safety Awareness Month. Choose one or more key locations in your local community, such as grocery and retail stores. Recommended hours for your event would be on Friday sometime between 11:00 am and 7:00 pm, and Saturday 8:00 am through 5:00 pm (the hours will depend on business at your selected site). Volunteers will collect donations in provided canisters and pass out informational cards and lapel ribbons.

Where do the collected donations go?

Proceeds will help to support the Midwest Scholarship Fund which was established to provide educational dollars for those children whose parents have been permanently disabled or killed in highway construction accidents.

Who provides the Tag Day materials?

IDOT and the Great Plains LIFE Foundation will provide all the official materials at no cost, including identifying posters, lapel ribbons, palm cards, and canisters. At your request, press releases will be sent to your area media notifying them of your organization’s participation.

Why should we volunteer?

WORKERS MEMORIAL TAG DAY is a simple and easy event. This is an opportunity for you to complete required community service hours, bring recognition to your organization, make the public aware of highway safety, and have the satisfaction of knowing that a child’s education has been secured.

Who do we contact?  . . . Julie Krause, Project Coordinator
