Illinois Wesleyan Rankings in Division III Golf Polls

October 16
The Illinois Wesleyan women's golf team is ranked No. 7 (down from No. 4) in the Oct. 17 NCAA Division III poll by the National Golf Coaches Association and Golf World magazine. For full information, go to GolfWorld magazine.

October 4
For the seventh straight year, the Illinois Wesleyan women's golf team has won the championship of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament, held Oct. 3-4 in Naperville, Ill. The Titans' team score was 649, easily besting second place Wheaton at 681 at the Springbrook Golf Club. Lindsey Haines was the tournament medalist as she won a playoff with Wheaton's Brittany Bronson. Both finished with two-day totals of 159. Nicole Spear finished third with a score of 161 and Maddie Murphy was in fourth with a score of 163. Erin Bradley also finished in the top 10, coming in tied for fifth with her 166 total. IWU, coming off a school-best fourth place finish at the 2008 NCAA Division III championships last May, was recently ranked fourth in the latest national rankings by Golf World Magazine.

October 3
The Illinois Wesleyan women's golf team is halfway to its seventh straight College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship after the first round of the league tourney on Friday, Oct. 3 in Naperville, Ill. The Titans stand at 318 at the Springbrook Golf Club and lead second place Wheaton at 343. Lindsey Haines is the tourney leader with a 4-over par 76 while Maddie Murphy is in third (79), Nicole Spear is in fourth (80) and Erin Bradley is in seventh place (83). IWU is coming off a fourth place finish at the 2008 NCAA Division III Championship. The fourth place finish was the Titans’ best finish in school history. The team was recently ranked fourth in the latest national rankings by Golf World Magazine. Play concludes on Saturday, Oct. 4.

September 28
The Illinois Wesleyan women's golf team finished in first place in the Millikin Fall Classic, held at Decatur's Red Tail Run Golf Course Sept. 27-28. IWU's Lindsey Haines and Erica Woodall finished tied for fifth with two-day scores of 157 while teammates Nicole Spear and Erin Bradley tied for ninth place with scores of 159. The Titans' team score was 629 and second place Lindenwood (Mo.) finished at 646. Lindenwood’s Marcella Ax carded a 74 on the second day and was the tournament medalist with a 152 total.

September 27
The Illinois Wesleyan women's golf team is in first place by 13 strokes after the first round of the Millikin Fall Classic, held at Decatur's Red Tail Run Golf Course Sept. 27. IWU's Lindsey Haines carded a 76 and is the individual leader followed by teammates Alessandra Bollero and Erin Bradley with a 78s and a second place tie. The Titans' team score is 314 and second place Lindenwood (Mo.) stands at 327. The 17-team tournament concludes on Sept. 28.

September 21
The Illinois Wesleyan women's golf team finished third in the 23-team IWU Fall Classic, held September 20-21 at Normal's Ironwood Golf Course. The Titans finished with a team score of 629, behind only Wisconsin-Stevens Point (608) and Otterbein (624). Lindsey Haines carded a second round 77 to finish in fourth place with a 7-over par 151 and Nicole Spear also got a top 10 finish, ending up tied for ninth with an 11-over par 155 after a second round 75. Stevens Point's Michelle Pascvais was the tournament medalist with a 146 score.

September 20
Lindsey Haines is one of three players atop the leaderboard with a 2-over par 74 and the Illinois Wesleyan women's golf team is tied for fourth after the first round of the IWU Fall Classic at Normal's Ironwood Golf Course. Nicole Spear is tied for 18th with an 80 and Erica Woodall is tied for 30th with her first round 82. Erin Bradley carded an 81 and is tied for 25th. Wisconsin-Stevens Point is in first place with a 308 score, 12 better than the Titans. Haines is tied for first with Michele Pascavis of Stevens Point and Caroline Brunoehler of Otterbein.

September 13-14
The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's golf tournament was cancelled due to inclement weather in the Midwest, a result of the remnants of Hurricane Ike.

September 7

The Illinois Wesleyan women’s golf team finished second (of 17) at the two-day Wartburg Fall Invitational at Centennial Oaks Golf Course in Waverly, Iowa, September 6-7. The Titans had a second day score of 325 to finish at 656, trailing only Gustavus Adolphus (No. 3 in the Division III preseason top 25) with a 633 score. Lindsey Haines shot a final round 78 to finish with a 160 score, good for ninth place. Nicole Spear finished tied for 10th with a 162 score and IWU’s Maddie Murphy and Erica Woodall tied for 16th with totals of 164. St. Thomas' Laura Heck was the individual leader at 154.

September 6
Erica Woodall shot a first round 80 on Saturday, Sept. 6 to lead the Illinois Wesleyan women’s golf team into third place at the two-day Wartburg Fall Invitational at Centennial Oaks Golf Course in Waverly, Iowa. Gustavus Adolphus, ranked No. 3 in the Division III preseason top 25, leads No. 12-ranked Wartburg, 324-326. IWU is at 331 followed by St. Thomas (335). Woodall is in seventh place overall. IWU’s Lindsey Haines carded an 82 and is tied for 15th, and Maddie Murphy shot 83 to earn a share of 18th place. St. Thomas' Laura Heck is the individual leader at 76.

September 2
The Illinois Wesleyan women's golf team finished 11th (of 14) in the Grand Valley State "Laker Fall Classic," held Sept. 1-2 at the Meadows Golf Course (Par 72, 5,923 yards) in Allendale, Mich. Junior Lindsey Haines and senior Maddie Murphy tied for 40th in the tournament with two-day scores of 167 and junior Alessandra Bollero shot a second round 79 to finish in 47th place with a total of 168. IWU's team score was 666 (331 on day two) as California U. (Pa.) was the team champion with a two-day score of 606.

September 1
After day one of the Laker Fall Classic, the Illinois Wesleyan women's golf team is in ninth place (of 14 teams). The Titans' team score was 335 at the Meadows Golf Course (Par 72, 5,923 yards) on the campus of Grand Valley State, the host school (who is also the first day leader with a score of 306). Wesleyan's Lindsey Haines is tied for 22nd with a 79 while Nicole Spear and Erin Bradley are tied for 41st with scores of 84 and Erica Woodall is in 50th place with an 85. Play concludes in the 36-hole tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 2.

July 21
The Illinois Wesleyan women's golf team had a combined 3.662 grade-point average, tying for fourth among all NCAA division schools in the 2007-2008 NGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award. This award recognizes the women’s collegiate golf program with the highest collective average team GPA which includes all of the team’s student-athletes for the 2007-2008 season. South Alabama’s seven team members had an average GPA of 3.734, followed by Stanford University (3.702), Southwestern University (3.70), Illinois Wesleyan and Santa Clara University (also 3.662).

July 16
Illinois Wesleyan's Alessandra Bollero, Kristi Katz and Nicole Spear are among 56 Division III women's golfers named to the 2008 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Teams. A total of 402 women's collegiate golfers from Division I, II & III were recognized with the honor.  The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 66% (Division III) of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year. Founded in 1983, the NGCA is a non-profit organization that represents nearly 500 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.

July 1

Coming off its highest finish ever in the national NCAA championships, the Illinois Wesleyan women’s golf team aims for its won its seventh consecutive College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship in 2008. The Titans open the fall season at the Grand Valley State Invitational in Allendale, Mich., on Sept. 1-2. Among the returning players is junior Alessandra Bollero, who finished second in the 2007 CCIW championships. IWU placed fourth in the 2008 Division III national tourney playing in the national tourney for the sixth time overall and the fourth consecutive season. IWU’s previous high finish was sixth in 2007, 2006 and 2000. The Titans were eighth in 2005 and 10th in 2002.
