December 15
Sophomore Alison Heim has been chosen as the “Most Valuable Player” for the 2006 Illinois Wesleyan women’s tennis team. Heim was 10-5 overall and 8-4 at No. 1 singles, where she finished third in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin tournament. Heim, who was a first team all-conference selection, also teamed with senior Kristina Sawyer for a 9-7 record and a third place CCIW finish at No. 1 doubles. In other team honors, Sawyer was named the team’s “Most Improved Player” and junior Sarah Rusch was elected as the 2007 team captain.
October 17
Illinois Wesleyan sophomore Alison Heim was named to the first team and senior Sandy Tobik was chosen to the second team of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin women's tennis teams chosen by league coaches. Heim was 10-5 overall and 8-4 at No. 1 singles this fall while Tobik was 9-7 overall and 6-6 at No. 2 singles.
October 6-7
For the fifth straight year, the Illinois Wesleyan women's tennis team finished third in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championships, held Oct. 6-7 at Bloomington's Evergreen Racquet Club. IWU's No. 1 singles player, Alison Heim got a third place individual finish along with Sandy Tobik (No. 2), Sarah Rusch (No. 4), and Harley Culbertson (No. 5). Heim and Kristina Sawyer also finished third at No. 1 doubles.
September 23
The Illinois Wesleyan women's tennis team took two College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin matches on Sat., Sept. 23 in Rock Island, Ill. The Titans improved to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin with wins over Augustana, 5-4, and North Central, 9-0. Alison Heim and Kristina Sawyer were the winners of both of their singles and doubles matches against the two teams with Heim winning at No. 1 singles and Sawyer winning at No. 3. Heim and Sawyer team to play at No. 1 doubles.
September 12
The Illinois Wesleyan University women’s tennis team won every set in claiming a 9-0 win over Millikin in Decatur on Tues., Sept. 12. The Titans improved to 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin. Singles winner were Alison Heim, Sandy Tobik, Kristina Sawyer, Sarah Rusch, Harley Culbertson and Colleen McShane while doubles teams that won were Heim/Sawyer, Tobik/Rusch and the team of Culbertson and freshman Cate Hunter.
September 9
The Illinois Wesleyan women's tennis team fell to 0-3 in 2006 in dropping an 8-1 dual meet decision to Coe on Sat., Sept. 9 at IWU's Beadles-Morse Courts. The Titans' lone singles winner came from No. 4 Sarah Rusch, who defeated the Kohawks' Lindsey Driscoll, 6-3, 6-3. IWU plays three matches this week - Sept. 10 at Illinois-Springfield; Sept. 12 at Millikin; and hosting Olivet Nazarene at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 13.
September 2
The Illinois Wesleyan women's tennis team got off to a rough start, losing a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match to Carthage, 9-0, and falling to non-conference foe Wisconsin-Whitewater, 8-1, on Sat., Sept. 2 at a triangular in Whitewater. Sophomore Alison Heim was the lone IWU winner in singles or doubles, topping Whitewater's Nicole Stamm, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 1 singles. The Titans host St. Francis at 4 p.m. on Sept. 5 and Coe at noon on Sept. 9.
June 2006
The Illinois Wesleyan University women's tennis team opens its season with a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin match against Carthage on Sat., Sept. 2 at 12:30 p.m. in Whitewater, Wis. The Titans will also play UW-Whitewater at 3:30 p.m. that same day. Among the key returning players are senior Sandy Tobik, who was named the team's "Most Improved Player"; junior Harley Culbertson, who is the 2006 team captain; and sophomore Allison Heim, who was a second team all-conference player in 2005 as she finished with a 12-4 record at No. 2 singles. Head coach Scott McCluskey's 2005 squad placed third in the CCIW meet for the fourth straight season.
