Titan Women’s Basketball Game Notes,
February 24-25, 2006

CCIW POSTSEASON TOURNAMENT: This is the fourth year for the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin to determine its automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Championship by playing a postseason tournament…IWU has a 3-1 record in CCIW postseason play – winning the tournament in 2003 and finishing second in 2005…In 2003, IWU beat Augustana, 68-59, in the first round and topped Wheaton, 54-53, for the title…In 2005, IWU beat Augustana, 75-73, in the semifinal and lost to Millikin, 82-64…The CCIW has a men’s postseason tournament this year for the first time.

AIMING FOR 20: Two more victories would give the Titans 20 wins for the season and would tie the school season record, set in 1994 (20-5), 1995 (20-6), and 2003 (20-9).

DEADLY ACCURACY: The Titans are No. 7 in the latest national NCAA Division III statistics, shooting .770 from the free throw line this season, well ahead of the school season record of .746 set in 2000-01.

VAL FLEISHMAN: With 866 points, senior captain Val Fleishman is No. 17 in career scoring at IWU and is No. 15 in career rebounds with 498…She has connected on 306 free throws in her career and is second only to Gwynne Roberts (319, 1988-92) in IWU records…She is No. 18 all-time at the school with 279 career field goals and her career percentage is .496 (279-562)…Was named CCIW “Player of the Week” twice this season.

HEIDI HARNISCH: With 826 career points, senior co-captain Heidi Harnsich is No. 22 all-time at IWU…She has 137 3-point field goals, which is No. 5 in IWU history, and her 74 this season is second best, behind only Katie Cantrell (82, 2002-03)…Her 281 career field goals is No. 17 and her 127 free throws is No. 19 among Titan career leaders…CCIW “Player of the Week” once this year.

KATIE BLONN: Senior Katie Blonn is No. 19 in IWU records with 413 career rebounds and tied at No. 20 with 123 made free throws. She ranks No. 23 in career field goals with 215.

AMANDA GLERUM: Senior co-captain Amanda Glerum suffered a season-ending injury (compartment syndrome in her right quadriceps)…She is No. 21 all-time at IWU with 827 career points and is tied for No. 2 with 150 career 3-pointers made…Her 180 career assists is No. 12 in an IWU uniform and her 292 field goals is No. 16 all-time at the school.

MALLORY HEYDORN: Freshman Mallory Heydorn has started every game and her 48 3-point field goals is tied for seventh most in a single IWU season…She has 76 assists to lead the team and that total is tied for 17th most in a Titan season.

MIA SMITH: In her eighth season at Illinois Wesleyan, Mia Smith (Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, 1986) has compiled a 120-84 overall record (.588) and a 68-44 mark (.607) in the CCIW…Smith has one CCIW championship and one NCAA Division III appearance, both in 2003.

IWU vs. NORTH PARK: Illinois Wesleyan leads North Park, 28-13, in the series that dates back to 1974. The Titans won both games this season – 71-57 in Bloomington on Jan. 21 and 63-49 last Saturday (Feb. 18) in Chicago...The Titans have won 19 of the last 23 games in the series.

IWU vs. WHEATON: Wheaton has a 36-12 lead in the series against Illinois Wesleyan, dating back to 1974…The teams split this season with IWU winning at Wheaton, 63-60, on Jan. 17, and the Thunder prevailing in Bloomington, 63-49, on Feb. 11…IWU beat Wheaton, 54-53 in the 2003 CCIW tournament championship game…Wheaton won the first 18 meetings in the series.

IWU vs. CARTHAGE: Carthage leads the series vs. Illinois Wesleyan, 21-19, dating back to 1986...The Titans won both regular season games this year, taking a 64-49 win at Carthage on Jan. 7 and claiming a 68-57 decision in Bloomington.
