IWU Gets Three on All-CCIW Squads; Smith Named “Coach of Year”

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Illinois Wesleyan University junior guard Mallory Heydorn was chosen to the first team while senior guards Sarah Bull and Crystal Dye were chosen to the second team of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin women’s basketball all-star squads, selected by league coaches today.

Also, Mia Smith of the league champion Titans was chosen as CCIW “Coach of the Year” for the first time in her 10 seasons.

Heydorn (LaGrange, Lyons Township HS) was a first team selection last year after being on the second team as a freshman. This season she led the league with 3.00 3-point field goals made per game, was seventh in scoring (13.3) and eighth in assists (2.8).

Bull (Lewistown HS) was fifth in both scoring (14.6) and 3-point field goal percentage (.419). She was second in 3-pointers per game (2.79) and 13th in both field goal percentage (.466) and free throw accuracy (.718).

Dye (Springfield, Southeast HS) was third in steals (2.00) and 10th in field goal percentage (.509). She was 12th in the league in rebounds (5.1) and 17th in scoring (9.9).

As a team in league play, the Titans led the conference in scoring (81.1 points per game), defense (58.4), rebounds (39.6), turnover margin (+7.86) and 3-point field goals made per game with 8.64 per game, well ahead of the 6.36 per game made by No. 2 Millikin.

For the second straight year, Millikin’s Lindsay Ippel was named “Most Outstanding Player.”

The Titans (23-2, 13-1 CCIW) host Elmhurst in the semifinals of the CCIW tournament at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29.
